Hair Care Myths Busted

How many times have we heard of a new, groundbreaking way to fix 1 of our many hair problems? Usually, the "advice" travels from friends that have indulged in TikTok or a wise tale passed down like a delicate broach. The kind you never intend on wearing. No matter where or how we get our hair news, not all of it is true. Like, at all.

Here are 4 myths that need to expire right away!

Myth #1: Coldwater = High Shine

The idea is that cold water is the remedy to many a hair issue, including a dull appearance. The false science goes like this: cold water seals your cuticle. The truth? That is the job of a conditioner. Coldwater is known to constrict the capillaries within your scalp that help pass along much-needed nutrients to the hair’s follicles. You're safer washing your hair with lukewarm water tbh.

Myth #2: What's good for the skin is good for the hair

We're all searching for ways to minimize our life and products, as we crave everyday ease. Skin and hair are both comprised of keratin. So, that might encourage the idea that what you put on your skin could also go on your hair.  However, some skincare ingredients don't have the same effect on the hair as it does the skin. One of these ingredients is hyaluronic acid. While it can help your skin stay supple, youthful, and pretty clear, the acidity can eat away at the hair and cause irritation and rashes. Just say no.

Myth #3: Dry Shampoo Is King

Here's the thing: dry shampoo doesn't actually cleanse your hair. It is designed to absorb excess oil in your hair so that it can hold up during washes. It's the same as using half and half in the place of your favorite white chocolate mocha creamer. It will do something, but not for long.

Myth #4: The Way to Growth is to Cut Your Hair

Sorry to break it to you, but cutting your hair has no effect whatsoever on the roots. It will help it to look fuller, though. So, that's a win!

Myth #5: Over washing Leads to Damage

If we had a penny for every time we've heard this, we would be living the high life. The idea that shampooing too often will strip your hair of oils is just not true. What is true is that our scalp naturally creates oils that travel down the shaft for hydration. Shampooing regularly with the correct product not only helps moisturize the hair but also helps it stay healthy.
