Say Goodbye to The Mom-Bob

The Mom-Bob. It has been called many things, including the reverse mullet, the tunic of haircuts, and the destroyer of style (okay, we may have made that last one up, but you get the point). This unfortunate and misguided style comes with long hair in the front and shorter hair in the back. Complemented with overt highlights, it is the opposite of chic. So, if it's so bad, why have people like Victoria Beckham and Claire Danes rocked it? Some mysteries will forever remain unsolved.

The Mom-Bob and You

Just to set the record straight and clear the air:  Whatever style you choose for your hair is up to you, and if it makes you happy go for it! Hair is all about freedom of expression, and it should always be a reflection of you. This is one style, though, that you might want to think long and hard about – when looking back at photos in a few years.

For one, it doesn't work for every hair type, like AT ALL. If you have wavy or curly hair, the idea of those curly locks hanging free in the front and bunched up in the back is a nightmare waiting to happen at a salon near you.

Plus, there's the tiny issue of maintenance. As if hair isn't already a little difficult to handle, the mom-bob can make life even more difficult. Think about it: would you like to spend an hour or more doing different things (like curling or straightening) in the front and then doing something else in the back?

Lastly, the way you style it is everything. While it might initially look good at the salon because, after all, these are trained professionals, recreating that can be a task and cause a great deal of frustration.

Making the Hard Decisions

Needless to say, this is not an easy style to keep up with. And yet, if you choose dive in head first, make sure that you do go to a professional stylist and communicate your vision for your style. Your hair should make you feel good and give you a confidence boost when you need it most.
