When it comes to hair, it's like a never-ending game that we often seem to lose. Questions swirl around like:

Should I cut my hair?

Should I keep it long?

Will bangs suit me?

All the while, your inner self is screaming, "just chop it all off and be done with it!"

It may seem like the "good hair gods" are on vacay, but the truth is a lot of the problems we encounter happen because we just don't know what will suit our face shape. Luckily, the cycle can stop now.

Here is the guide you never knew you always wanted:

Oval-Shaped Faces

The goal for an oval face is to avoid anything that could make your face appear longer. A short haircut can allow you the fun and simple upkeep you want, all while achieving balance.

A bob or shoulder-length cut with layers will never steer you wrong. But don’t think that limits the lengths you can go to. Longer hair can highlight an oval face wonderfully!  And an added bouns: side-sweeping bangs look great on oval faces.

Celebrity inspiration for oval faces? Look to Beyonce, Rihanna and Julia Roberts.

Heart-Shaped Faces

The key to heart-shaped faces is to create an illusion of a wide, more defined jawline. So, how do you achieve this? A shoulder-length hairstyle can add much-needed volume.  A great celebrity inspiration to look to? Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria-Parker, Scarlett Johansson and Naomi Campbell.

Square-Shaped

For those with a square-shaped face, you have two options:

lean into your facial shape or soften your strong jawline. Either one is perfectly fine! If you choose to enhance your face shape, a bob with blunt bangs will look amazing. If you prefer to soften your shape, however, try soft bangs to one side.

Celebrity Inspiration: Zendaya, Sandra Bullock, Angelina Jolie,

Round

What is the main goal for a person with a round face? Elongate the face so that it's lightly airing on the side of oval. An easy way to do this is to leave a little piece of hair untucked on one side of your face (it doesn't matter which side). This can shorten the width of your round shape and make your face appear a bit narrower.

Pro tip: a short do like a pixie cut or a high pony work well on this face type. Celebrity Inspo? Elizabeth Olsen, Chrissy Tiegen, Isla Fisher and Mila Kunis.

Long

If this is your face shape, you might find yourself looking for ways to make your face appear wider. What is the best option? Loose natural curls (the widest part of the waves should be around the cheekbone) will open up the face and create width, but it won't be overdone.

Celebrities to look towards for inspiration: Sarah Jessica Parker, Sandra Oh.

Diamond

While all face shapes are wonderful in their own way, diamonds tend to have a little more fun. This is because a diamond shape is symmetrical and balanced.

That doesn't mean that you don't want to accentuate some of your facial features a little better, however.

Here are two ways you can do just that:

-Long, side-swept bangs help highlight the cheekbones

-A sleek, yet classic middle part with the hair tucked behind your ears can show off your bone structure

Celebrity Inspiration: Megan Fox, Viola Davis, and Jennifer Lopez.
