How Your Self-Care Impacts Your Hair Care
Here at Hologram Salon, we like to consider ourselves self-appointed “hair-apists.” Yes, we live and breath hair (sometimes literally), but we also love hearing about YOU as we trim, style and color. We learn so much about our lovely clients and we can’t help but become invested in the whole you.
We have recommendations for days on hair care routines, products and treatments. But hair care is so intricately tied in with self-care that we thought we’d take a step back and mention some mind and body basics that can lead to healthier hair and a healthier you.
Think of it like this. Self-care is caring for your hair. Hair care is self-care. Here are some tips that can foster a healthier you from hair to toes.
Hydration
Internal and external hydration are key to healthy hair. You invest in those great hydrating products and treatments but drinking the right amount of water can make a huge impact on your health inside and out.
Healthy eating
You are what you eat and your hair needs the right nutrients to keep doing its thing. Your hair needs protein and essential vitamins and minerals. Think lean proteins, healthy fats and plenty of nutrient rich fruits and veggies to keep your hair lustrous and glorious.
De-stress
Stress takes its toll on body, mind and hair. Look for areas in your life where you can cut the stress back. Exercise does wonders to relieve stress, so does being outside in nature. Breathe. Whether it’s meditation, yoga or just actively engaging in deep breathing, your body responds to deep breathing by taking you out of fight or flight mode and putting back into a restful state. You can give yourself a scalp massage with hydrating oils and kill two birds with one stone. In general, look for ways to combine self-care, hair care and de-stressing techniques.
Sleep
Restful sleep can make all the difference in our energy and attitude but it also plays a huge factor in our overall health and well being. Give yourself the time and space to create a restorative sleep routine. Close the computer, shut off the TV and turn off the cell phone before you start to wind down. Settle in with a nice book, a bath and a cup of calming tea. Prioritize a good night’s rest and you will notice the benefits in body, mind, spirit and hair.
We’re not doctors but we know a thing or two about hair. Your hair deserves to be nurtured and so do you. Self-care is a win-win for you and your lustrous locks.
We care so much about our clients and we want to see the best not just for your hair, but you as a whole person. Here’s to self-care and great hair!
