Hologram Your Hair: Adding Dimension to Your Hair Color

Would you leave the house for a soiree with just foundation on?

Um, no, thank you. You’re better off just going out with a nude face than just wearing foundation. Why? Because without depth and contour, straight foundation looks strange and off-putting. We need shape, lines, light and dark, depth and contrast to add dimension and highlight your eyes and lips.

The same goes for your hair. If it feels flat and “blah,” you need some dimension to bring your hairstyle back to life.

Dimension can come in many forms but one of the best ways to add contour to your hair is with lowlights. Lowlights take your hair to a new level with a subtle tone-on-tone enhancement that will make your natural hair color pop.

Say buh-bye to streaky, chunky highlights. Lowlights are typically two to three tones darker than your hair color and they can add amazing complexity and dimension to your mane. Throw in some subtle but stunning lowlights and you’ve got yourself a head of hair that will make heads turn.

Think of lowlights like an optical illusion.

Your hair looks best when it’s three-dimensional (like a hologram…get it?). When light passes through hair, it becomes three-dimensional and it comes alive. Our goal as hairstylists, is to take your hair canvas and make it explode off the page. Hair at its best is reflective, multidimensional and captivating.

One reason women love lowlights is the low maintenance. With highlights you’ll need to go in every six to eight weeks for a touch up. With lowlights, maintenance comes every two to four months.

Another great thing about lowlights is that they work with just about every  hair color. As long as the lowlights are done right (which is the only way we do things here ;) ), they will work on the blondest blonde to the darkest brunette.

Lowlights are one of those things you probably don’t want to DIY. Hair coloring not only takes years of training to get right, but it’s also an art. And on that note, you’re going to want to choose an artist that shares your aesthetic. Stalk some colorists on Instagram to peep at their style. Make sure to bring lots of examples and inspirations to your appointment and talk through the ‘do you’re dreaming of before you get started.

if you’re feeling flat or monotonous, we’d love to help you deepen your hair color and add richness and “wow” to your look. We’re always down for some lowlights.

Let’s add some dimension to your hairdo!
